Swatch has been designing and creating wonderful and world-known wrist watches providing fashion and practicality for all types of people and personalities for over 25 years.
The first collection of twelve Swatch models was introduced to Zurich, Switzerland on 1st March 1983. Initial sales targets were set to one million timepieces for 1983 and 2.5 million the year after.
With an aggressive marketing campaign and a very reasonable prices, it gained instant popularity in its home market. Compared to conventional watches, a Swatch was 80% cheaper to produce by fully automating assembly and seriously reducing the number of parts and components.
There are three families under the overall Swatch brand (the core collection);
The Originals are plastic cased watches and are available in various different sizes, shapes and designs. Within the original family, you will find sub-families such as; Square, Chrono, Jelly in Jelly.
The original skin was introduced on the 6th October 1997 as a much thinner version of the original family / collection. The skin family contains two sub families; Original Skin and Skin Chronograph. The swatch skin later went on to enter the Guinness world book of records as the world’s thinnest plastic watch.
The Irony family contains all the metal cased watches produced by swatch. And as you would expect, they too come in different sizes and shapes.
